Miami Prep had a wonderful inaugural tournament this past weekend as the Tornadoes went 4-0 to win the Battle of The Bay in Tampa, Fla. It was a weekend of firsts as Norchad Omeir scored the first two points in Miami Prep history off an alley-oop. (Link).
Miami Prep (4-0) started the day with a narrow two-point win over host PHS Academy PG, followed by a win over Clearwater Academy (48-39). The Tornadoes would continue their impressive run witha 57-38 win over CPCA Blue and closed out the tournament by beating 4A Sports Academy by 14 points.
Petar Krivokapic, a 6-3 point guard from Montenegro, paced Miami Prep averaging 26.3 points and 4.6 assists per game, followed by Norchad Omeir, a 6-6 forward from Nicaragua, with 19.3 points and 15.7 rebounds. Lino Saez, a 6-4 forward from Chile, added 14.8 points and 8.3 rebounds, while Alejandro Santiago, a 6-0 guard from Puerto Rico, chipped in with 12.7 points and 7.5 assists per game.
Among others to contribute during the 4-0 start were D.J. Taylor, a 6-0 guard from the United States, with 12.3 points and 3.8 assists per game and Jeswell Vega, a 6-0 point guard from Puerto Rico, who chipped in with 12.0 points and 6.5 assists per game.
“The kids played very hard,” said Art “Pilin” Alvarez, CEO and President of Miami Prep, “To go 4-0 against this competition in their first time playing against outside competition shows how good the kids are and the coaching staff had them ready to go.”
Miami Prep returns to the court on Saturday, Oct.5 in Jacksonville, Fla. in the Edward Waters Showcase. The Tornadoes open their home schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 9 against Triple Threat Prep at 7 p.m. at Dade Christian.
